Steering wheel slightly crooked | VW

I have a problem where the steering wheel is slightly crooked when the wheels are straight.

What could be the reason for this?

Have the alignment checked? Or have parts of the axle checked for play?

    Definitely have it measured.

Your wheel alignment may be off, or something may be worn. It's best to have your axles or tracking measured.

Has the steering wheel been off before? If so, it may not have been placed straight back on the toothing... If it has appeared suddenly, check the tie rods. Perhaps the steering wheel wasn't quite straight when the alignment was last adjusted?

It's best to have a wheel alignment done.

You can only have a wheel alignment done to be sure. Before that, of course, you should check whether all axle parts are in order. Otherwise you won't get it out.

    Get the alignment checked

I also think it should be measured

Was the steering wheel ever removed? Normally, the steering wheel does not move by itself. If no one has touched it, it shouldn't just be misaligned. Especially since the airbag has to be removed for that. Only a master workshop with trained personnel is allowed to do that. First have the axle measured and tell them directly that your problem is a crooked steering wheel.

    Adjust alignment. 100%

Did you drive over an obstacle (e.g. curb) at a higher speed?

What does your front tire wear look like? Is it wearing evenly? Does the car pull to one side while driving? Has any work been done on the front suspension? (Some things require a realignment.) Have you unintentionally hit a curb or obstacle? You should have the alignment checked.

I see it the same way, but it will never be avoidable. Too bad

Were new tie rods or tie rod ends installed? Then the screw-in depth(s) will not fit. There are target dimensions for every car for this. So center of tie rod end to inner joint. This will make the steering wheel straight. And the track will fit quite well. Then exactly by axle alignment.

    Will an alignment fix that?

  15. Matze

Adjust steering wheel. This is the wrong way

Have you made any progress? Have you set the toe and camber?

…what was the result? Was the toe and camber (wheel alignment) adjusted and the problem solved 🤔?
